Oracle Designer 10g: Application design and generation

This course is only available in Dutch. Would you prefer to take the course in English? Please contact us.

Oracle Designer is an integrated suite of tools used to build an information system. This course provides an in-depth exploration of Oracle Designer as a tool for generating screen and report applications. During the course, you will receive tips and advice on common challenges and tasks encountered when generating applications within the Oracle Designer environment.

The course follows a workshop format, with 60% of the time dedicated to designing and generating a realistic information system using Oracle Designer. The remaining 40% is allocated to explanations and demonstrations by the instructor.

You will Learn

  • How to work with an application system where the analysis and database design phases have already been completed.
  • How to use Oracle Designer to generate applications during the module design and development phases (generating Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, menus, and PL/SQL libraries).
  • How to work with the repository, the Design Editor, the Application Design Transformer, and the Forms, Reports, and Library Generator.
  • Methods for generating modules in a way that ensures the applications are generated according to your specific requirements.

Topics

  • The importance of earlier development phases before starting the module design.
  • Creating modules: manually and using the Application Design Transformer.
  • Generating modules.
  • Preferences as a factor in generation.
  • Other generation factors: the role of template forms and object libraries.
  • Modules with multiple module components.
  • Windows and canvas layout, including multi-region blocks.
  • Block and item layout.
  • Item groups.
  • Non-base table items: lookup items, derived items, buttons.
  • Generating List of Values (LOVs).
  • Generating Navigator Items.
  • Designing report modules.
  • Report layout.
  • Report queries.
  • Creating and generating a menu.
  • Client-side Application Logic: event code, named routines, and PL/SQL libraries.
  • Interaction between modules: named and argument-passed values.
